致知格物(Chichi Kakubutsu)

It is the teaching of Confucius who prayed for world peace and it is an idiom which is written at the beginning of one of the eight steps in Great Learning. It teaches that the realization of humankind’s greatest dream of world peace starts at one’s feet. If one could dig up the wisdom within oneself, one can be enlightened to the principles that matter. The logic is that moral training can be achieved by controlling oneself which leads to governing one’s family and then to governing the nations which results in world peace.

Controlling oneself is hard, let alone being a politician who has the power to control a country.  Their influence on the world shall be inevitable.
Even if the stage is the world, those who move the stage are still just one person at his/her heart. Wisdom lies where one eliminates one’s worldly desires.
